Factors that cause damage on ladle slag zone magnesia carbon brick
In order to make new type of steel, during refining, the heating temperature from electrode is high, argon blowing period is long, viscosity of refining slag is low and with high erosion, sometimes VD process if needed, due to which reasons, there are many factors that could cause damage on ladle slag zone
magnesia carbon brick. Based on damage mechanism, mainly as follow:
1.The erosion from refining slag. the chemical compositions of refining slag are mainly CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, with long high temperature processing, alkalinity becomes high, composition wave range is high. When CaF2 content is high, viscosity becomes low, which is highly erosive to slag zone
magnesia carbon bricks.
2.High temperature. During refining, temperature rise with the heating of electrodes, and the temperature at electrodes area is very high. Affected by deviation of ladle positioning and improper operation on electrodes, a hot spot will be formed at slag zone, in addition to the influence of refining slag, slag zone magnesia carbon brick will be seriously damaged.
3.Decarburization of magnesia carbon
refractory brick. During the turnover of ladle, due to long sintering time, slow turnover, surface of magnesia carbon brick is easier to decarburize because of being oxidized, brick tissue will get loose and strength will be lowered, the resistance to the scour of molten steel will be decreased. Meanwhile, slag could penetrate into the decarburized layer, erosion gets faster and a thicker deteriorated layer will be formed, which will cause structural spalling.
